Pretty boring day yesterday and today on the vape front. One noteworthy new article on Fasttech is some 304 and 316 Stainless Steel Resistance Wire. You can use them either for Temperature Control (in case you have an adjustable TCR like the SXK Nebula has) or also as an alternative to Kanthal.
About stepdown: You might have noticed or read in several forums that the IPV D2 does NO stepdown in power mode. This means that it puts out always at least the nominal battery voltage. In case you have a .5 ohm coil and set it to 7W, the Mod will show around 1V but in fact there are >3.7V.
This is a bummer for low wattage vapers as well as for proper breaking in coils. But there is a workaround:
The D2 IS capable of stepping down in Joule (Temperatur control) mode. It switches from DC to PWM there. So take your kanthal build, switch to TC mode, set the Joules to your desired wattage (Joules = Watts with YiHi chips) and just to be sure: maximize the temperature.
Temperature protection will not kick in as kanthal does not change its resistance.
Originally the confusion was there because most shops just stated “Output voltage: 1.0V-7V”. In fact it is:
Output voltage: 3.6V-7V (Power mode)
Output voltage: 1.0V-7V (Joules mode)
Maximum resistance in TC mode should be .3 ohm. Tests show that the mod does not bother at all. You can vape your .5 ohm builds in TC mode as well and so far it has not kicked out of TC.
Pioneer4You fixed this now – but not for the D2 but with the release of an updated IPV D3.
